At the Library: Saturday, March 22 at 4 p.m.: Chuck Cheesman presents a sing-along and dance party for children of all ages Through mid-April: AARP Foundation’s free tax help on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. By Patricia Lowell, Reference Librarian Sedona AZ (March 18, 2014) – April 15 is rapidly approaching, when both federal and state income taxes are due. In years past, they were due on March 15, which tied in so well with the warning “Beware the Ides of March” from Shakespeare’s play “The Tragedy of Julius Caesar.” However, (just a bit of history for…

By Henry Twombly, Sedona Resident(March 20, 2014) By now you have probably heard that the new Sedona Community Plan has passed. The votes of the ballots cast were 1530 Yes (61.59%) and 954 No (38.41%). The Council, the Chamber, the Sedona Red Rock News (SRRN), and the other powers that be would like you to think that 61.59% of our citizenship supports the plan, thus giving them some sort of mandate. But the sad truth is that only 38.3% of Sedona’s registered voters cast ballots (2484 out of 6495)…which means less than 25% of the residents support the Plan. Even…
Thanks … to Heath and his crew at Performance One Aviation at Falcon Field; to Gus and his crew at Master Aircraft Services at Wickenburg … what a magnificent job on the Lambada. This is a photo taken after we landed back at Sedona late afternoon. The trim is an incredibly beautiful deep metallic blue. J J A slight delay after we arrived down there to pick up the ship, but then the fuel was back in the tanks, appreciation for a beautiful job was expressed, photos were taken and everyone had large smiles on their face.
By Nazih M. HazimeFire Chief, Verde Valley Fire District(March 19, 2014) Dear Yavapai County Property Owner: The City of Surprise and the City of Peoria have introduced a piece of legislation at the Arizona State Legislature that would take away your ability as a property owner to choose your emergency service provider in the future. The introduced legislation is House Bill 2152 and if passed, this bill would remove your ability to annex into a fire district, and other special districts, without the approval of a neighboring city. Peoria and Surprise clearly operate under the assumption that any property inside…
By Ted Grussing Late morning it is on Ace Express for a trip down to Phoenix and a drop at Denny’s and then Bob will provide transportation out to Wickenburg where we will pick up Mariah and fly her back to Sedona. Heath says that the paint job is fabulous. Anyhow it is late and need some sleep before it is time for the morning espresso and the journey begins.
By Tracey Shadley Sedona AZ (March 18, 2014) – Every time I meet someone and describe what I do for a living, I get the reply “Wow I could sure use your help” or some type of “How To” question. I truly believe that an organized life is a happier life and want to share some ideas that I know will help you get there! It seems I cannot clean/organize/de-clutter unless I am in “the mood” to. Is there a way to get motivated when things feel overwhelming and heavy feeling?
By Ted Grussing I took this shot last December whilst flying the NW face of the San Francisco Peaks N of Flagstaff. There was some snow on the peaks and I like to get shots of the patterns and textures on the mountain side … you get neat stuff like this one. The natural world is kinda cool and it doesn’t take much technology to enjoy it … I’ll be looking at this shot on my smart phone, laptop, flat screen television (now a monitor for another computer) and two tablets during the day tomorrow. Best view is still the…

By Ted Grussing … Spring is here … well for us it has pretty much been here all winter, but the flowers are blooming, trees are budding and new leaves emerging from tree branches and everywhere creatures are about the business of keeping their species going for today and the future … An orchid that Ted & Sus gave Corky last June lost its blooms in September, but in the last several weeks has generated ten new flowers and still many buds yet to open. So with a little time on my hands this morning I spent a half hour…

By Ted Grussing When I went for my late afternoon walk tonight the clouds were forming beautiful and delicate shapes and patterns. I like this shot with the well-defined wisps appearing to form a lake and then spill out again.; almost look like strands of hair … have watched two Pink concerts this week and could not help myself … sorry … not really … it is a little subtle … maybe?
Sedona AZ (March 12, 2014) – The City of Sedona’s budget process began on December 16, 2013, with a City Council work session to set goals and priorities for the new fiscal year (the City’s fiscal year runs from July 1st to June 30th). During January and February, City departments fine-tuned revenue projections, submitted operating and capital budgets and prepared “decision package requests” for new programs or projects. In March, staff will compile the requests and whittle those down so that they fall within the annual revenue restrictions. The proposed budget will be presented to the City Council over three…
By Ted Grussing … this Coopers Hawk is patiently waiting for a flyby of his breakfast on wings, and sooner than later his opportunity came. I didn’t see the outcome, but minutes after I took this shot he was on the move either to another perch or some food had flown by and he was on the chase. They are an absolutely ferocious aerial combat machine and it is fun to watch them in action.
By Ted Grussing … have been setting all kinds of records for cold and snow, the Southwest has been enjoying beautiful weather. I saw the first Iris blooming in mid-February and although this shot is from last year it looks like the ones that are blooming. This is kinda like an invitation to step inside for a look around the neighborhood … in fact most flowers are very inviting looking places and they welcome the visits by various birds and insects which just happen to stumble around enough to pollinate the flower and keep the natural cycle going assuring more…
