By Dr. Marta AdelsmanLife Coach in Communication and Consciousnesswww.DrMartaCoach.com(December 8, 2013) With Thanksgiving Day recently celebrated, I reflected on the subject of gratitude.  My thoughts about it this year have taken a little different direction than in previous years.  I compared gratitude to the layers of a peach. The skin or outer surface can be likened to surface gratitude.  It’s about thankfulness for nice things, the material possessions that we own.  They make us feel good and they make life comfortable.  We appreciate that large, flat-screen TV, the new car, or the new patio furniture.  And we feel grateful for…

By Henry Twombly, Sedona Resident(December 1, 2013) This is a call to arms.  Well, actually it’s a call to pens, because we all know that the pen is mightier than the sword.  Those of us who are opposed to the City Council’s profligate spending have a December 11th deadline to submit our letter for Arguments Against the 2013 New Sedona Community Plan.  We need to submit them to “the Sedona City Clerk, CIty of Sedona, Sedona, AZ  86336 for insertion in the publicity pamphlet.  Arguments can not exceed 300 words in length.  Individuals submitting arguments must provide their name, physical…

By James Bishop, Jr.www.NewTerritoryArts.com(November 25, 2013) In politics absurdity is not a handicap— Napoleon In his cups, Doug Rigby, an author in Sedona’s early days, before all the experts in planning and parking arrived, loved to talk. In particular, he loved to tell visitors at the Rainbow Inn saloon that planet Earth, with all its wars, tyrants, dictators, half-wit politicians, crooks and gamblers, battle-hungry generals was here for the simple reason that the Gods needed something to amuse them, so easily bored they can be, from time to time. Indeed, with all the cutting and running nowadays in Washington where…

By Henry Twombly, Sedona Resident(November 13, 2013)  The Sedona Red Rock News (SRRN) has confirmed that its news coverage is extremely biased in favor of the pro-growth, pro-business, pro-taxes, pro-tourist agenda of the powers that be. I have always suspected as much, noticing where articles are placed, who gets to write guest perspectives, whose letters to the editor get printed, and what positions get espoused in its editorials.

By Elisa Andreis J.D.Russ Lyon Sotheby’s International Realty Sedona AZ (November 8, 2013) – It is our high selling season in real estate with a vibrant market full of opportunities. A lot of new listings come on the market at the moment and home buyers make the trip to Sedona to shop for good deals. We are noticing strong activity triggered by reduced inventory, with at times multiple offers on the same home, even when the home has been on the market for several hundred days. As days on market shrink, sellers are holding firm onto their listing prices and…

By Zachary Richardson, Sedona Resident(November 6, 2013) The Override campaign was a great learning experience for everyone. Though the Override won the election, there were still a number of people who voted against it, which is frustrating. Many who criticized the campaign had sound concerns about the state of education in our country, though that is unrelated to the Override, and supporting the Override is actually a way to address many of those concerns within our community. Others had misinformation that could have been easily clarified if they took the time to accurately research the facts and visit the schools.…

By Zachary Richardson, Sedona Resident(November 6, 2013) We won…the voters of Sedona stood with us…we are grateful for the support. The voting turnout for the Override Election was huge, which means we now have a large audience for our school district that we can use to the advantage of our students and teachers in the years to come.

By Mike Schroeder (November 2, 2013) We are down to the wire on the school override campaign.  For votes to count they will have to be hand carried by 7PM on Tuesday.  I along with many others still encourage a VOTE NO on the SD9 override.  There are too many inconsistencies with the programs that are being offered and the way the district is managed.

By Lori Abel(October 25, 2013) I attended day two of the Oak Creek Community Eco-Fair [on October 20, 2013]. I was eager to soak up all the knowledge I could about environmental issues around water. I entered the South Softball Field of the School Grounds on Posse Ground Road, ready to provoke answers and find solutions from the experts in Verde Valley, about local water problems.

By Suzette Orah(October 22, 2013) We all agree on one thing! Proper education is most important. Lack of good education creates ignorance and prejudice. This in turn creates war and terrorism. I also understand the need for funds to support teachers and better education. However, I do question the need to ask the already overburdened Sedona taxpayers with another tax increase to get this funding. If we vote yes without seeing the full picture, we are voting for additional taxes. The school has avenues to fund itself, IF it operates like a business, with correct priorities in place.

By Geoffrey WorssamSedona Red Rock High School(October 21, 2013) Dear Editor, A child’s imagination is arguably the most powerful tool utilized to navigate through school and life. Imagination supplies a child with the insight and understanding needed to be successful in endeavors, and the arts are one area where a child acquires language and media skills necessary to express imagination to the world. It is well established that aptitude with the arts helps children transfer expertise to other subjects as well. This has been demonstrated by many studies. For example, MIT stated recently that students typically remember about 10% of…

By Elisa Andreis J.D.Russ Lyon Sotheby’s International Realty. Sedona AZ (October 21, 2013) – My clients often ask me where real estate buyers come from when looking to get a pad in Sedona. While the traditional East and West coasts provide a constant flow of real estate buyers in Sedona, international buyers are looking beyond the typical Florida and New York, to snap up deals off the beaten track and locations like Sedona are generating an increasing number of sales. In the last 15 months I’ve had several European clients buying both homes and vacant land in Sedona.
