Sedona AZ (July 14, 2020) – In order to ensure the health and safety of city employees and patrons, beginning tomorrow, July 14, 2020, the Sedona Community Pool will close until approximately July 28, 2020 due to two lifeguards who were exposed to someone who has COVID-19. This exposure did not occur at the Sedona Community Pool.
Following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and state and county health guidelines, the two lifeguards are getting tested and will quarantine for two weeks. The city of Sedona, in coordination with Yavapai County Community Health Services will evaluate opening the pool once the test results of the two lifeguards are received in seven – 10 days.
While physical distancing, mask wearing when not in the water and other precautionary practices are strictly observed, all lifeguards, including the two exposed to COVID-19, participated in recent rescue training that is critical to their job, putting them in close contact with each other and increasing the risk that COVID-19 may have spread to other lifeguards and pool staff.
“Closing the facility while awaiting test results is the only way to ensure COVID-19 is not inadvertently spread at the pool,” said city of Sedona Parks and Recreation Manager Steve Richardson.
Anyone who has a reservation in the next two weeks will be provided a refund.
