    Information for City of Sedona 2012 Primary Election

    City of Sedona ArizonaSedona AZ (January 27, 2012) – The City of Sedona is holding its 2012 Primary Election on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 and its General Election on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, if necessary.  There are three council seats available for a four-year term and the Mayor’s seat is available for a two-year term.  The City Clerk’s office received candidate packets from six individuals by the December 14th deadline.  One of the candidates withdrew on January 18th and the following candidates will be on the ballot:

    • Mayor’s Seat, Two-Year Term: Rob Adams
    • Council Seat, Four-Year Term: Mark DiNunzio, John Martinez, John D. Miller and Jessica Williamson

    This will be a vote by mail election.  In addition to the above, the ballot will include the question as to whether the City of Sedona should continue the Alternative Expenditure Limitation (Home Rule) option.  For more information on this ballot issue, please see our website www.SedonaAZ.gov, click on “Your Government” tab and then “Election Information”.

    A candidate is declared elected at the Primary election if he/she receives fifty percent plus one (50% +1) of the votes cast. If a seat(s) is (are) not filled at the primary, a general election will be held to fill it (them).  The mayor and councilors will assume office after the general election following the City Council’s election canvass.

    To register to vote in this election, a resident must:  be a citizen of the United States; be 18 years of age or more on or before the date of the general election next following his registration; be a state resident for a period of twenty-nine days prior to the election; reside within the Sedona City limits for twenty-nine days prior to the election; and have the ability to write one’s own name or make his mark unless prevented by physical disability.

    Voter registration forms are available at Sedona City Hall or you can register online at http://www.azsos.gov/election/VoterRegistration.htm.  The Coconino County Voter Registration phone number is (928) 793-6181, and the Yavapai County Voter Registration phone number is (928) 771-3248.  Voter registration for the City’s primary election closes on February 13, 2012, and on April 16, 2012 for the general election, if it is held.

    Compassionate Sedona?

    Sedona is known throughout the world as a spiritual destination point where the land and those who live upon it march to the beat of a different drummer. Compassion. Love. Inclusivity and enlightenment are pillars upon which this community is sustained. Yet, something happened a few days ago that made me question if this is really true. I was at dinner at a local restaurant with a fellow community resident, whom I had always thought to be one of the most compassionate people in Sedona. Quite off-handedly my friend asked me how I felt about a city plan to provide safe parking for people who work in Sedona but have to live in their vehicles because they cannot afford the rent to live here, or even in Cottonwood. I said I thought it was a great idea and my friend’s expression went from calmness to shock. “I can’t believe you are telling me that with a straight face,” he gasped, as he dropped his fork on the table. “Do you know what you are saying.” Read more→
