Flagstaff, AZ (November 28, 2011) – Limited Christmas tree permits, at $15 each, are still available for over-the-counter sales on the Coconino National Forest and can be paid for by cash or personal check. The permits are issued one per household and are first-come, first-served until sold out. Phone orders cannot be accepted. Instructions and a map will be provided with each permit. The deadline for cutting is December 24. Red Rock Ranger District currently has 91 permits for pinyon pine or juniper trees. The cutting area is located near Stoneman Lake off of Interstate 17. Flagstaff, AZ (November 28, 2011) – Pending favorable conditions today, fire managers are planning to conduct prescribed broadcast burn on the Eastside Project, south of the Little America Hotel, and a prescribed pile burn on Mogollon Rim District, south of Blue Ridge and Highway 87. Both burn projects have been approved by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality; crews are evaluating conditions at the burn sites prior to ignition. (November 22, 2011) – Keep Sedona Beautiful recently hosted its 2011 Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon at the Sedona United Methodist Church. In addition to appreciating and thanking nearly 100 of its volunteers and litter lifters, Sedona’s oldest conservation organization also gave awards of appreciation to two local businesses and two individuals. Sedona AZ(November 21, 2011) – A portion of the Bell Rock Pathway Trail will be temporarily closed for reconstruction beginning November 30 through December 7. This temporary closure will allow Forest Service personnel and the Coconino Rural Environment Corps (CREC) crew to provide necessary trail improvements; installing water diversion structures, reducing soil erosion and to enhance the trail surface for continued public enjoyment. The project proposes issuance of an easement or permit that would allow construction, operation and maintenance of an access road into private property on forest land near Sedona, Arizona. The EA considers several alternatives near the Oak Creek Cliffs subdivision, Oak Creek Cliffs Drive and below Airport Mesa.
