Sedona AZ (January 24, 2019) – For the ninth consecutive year, the Sedona Korean American Association (SKAA) will hold the Lunar New Year Festival at the Sedona Meditation Center at 340 Jordan Road in Uptown Sedona.

20190124_sedonakoreanFrom 11 am to 3 pm on Sunday, February 3rd, 2019, the group will celebrate the year of the Golden Pig with Asian food, traditional Korean games, and the ever-popular fortune telling, drumming and kigong demonstrations, and a lion dance. This cultural event will be free of charge, and will also include a raffle with prizes donated from local businesses. Official proceedings will begin at 1:15 pm.

Since its beginning in 2010, this annual event has been a celebration of cultural diversity, friendship, and communal spirit. In addition to raising awareness of eastern culture, the Sedona Korean American Association has supported veterans and senior citizens in our neighborhood, as well as nearby communities, for years. In 2019, in collaboration with ECO (Earth Citizens Organization), SKAA especially plans to focus on community engagement for promoting the spirit of care and love through culture and art. We hope this lunar event will be the beginning of the celebration of the cultural abundance and diversity in our community for the new year. All donations and proceeds will be forwarded to ECO to support its mission for developing community culture of care and sustainability.

SKAA adheres to the Korean foundational philosophy of “love for humanity and love for the earth” and hopes to foster greater understanding and interconnectedness between people of different cultures through this festival. Furthermore, in support of the Healing Society Project, the Sedona Korean American Association plans to increase community services for veterans and senior citizens, and all proceeds from the event will go towards these efforts in our local community.

    If I Were Curtis Sliwa
    By Tommy Acosta

One of my guilty little pleasures is imagining what I would do if I was in someone else’s shoes, especially politicians. In this essay I would love to jump into the shoes of Curtis Sliwa, a former New York City vigilante who founded the Guardian Angels and is now running as a Republican for mayor of his city.
