logo_scitechexpoClarkdale AZ (March 28, 2016) – The Yavapai College Verde Valley Campus in Clarkdale (601 Black Hills Drive) and the Town of Clarkdale will host the Verde Valley SciTech Expo on Friday, April 8 from 5 to 8 p.m. The Expo, which is free and open to the public, is an extension of the statewide Arizona SciTech Festival, held annually in February and March. For a complete list of events, go online to http://www.vvscitech.org/events.html.

The Arizona SciTech Festival celebrates science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) and features a variety of exhibitions, workshops, expos, tours and more across the state to underscore how STEAM will influence Arizona for the next century.

“The Expo will showcase businesses and industries whose products and services include STEAM education and skills; and the College will have hands-on exhibits and tours of the Southwest Wine Center,” said James Perey, executive dean of the Verde Valley campus. “This event is aimed at informing the community about exciting things happening in and around STEAM in the Verde Valley. Visitors will learn how these concepts pertain to their everyday lives.”

The Expo will feature a Robinson R-66 helicopter and helicopter simulator from Guidance Aviation, an unmanned aerial vehicle demonstration by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, a Yavapai College Film and Media Arts green screen demo, hands-on ceramic experiences in the art studio, and much more. Many businesses and organizations will be on site demonstrating how STEAM is a critical part of what they do. Additionally, grilled hamburgers and hot dogs will be available for purchase.

The Verde Valley SciTech Festival also features a passport program, whereby attendees can win prizes.  Pick up a passport at any of the festival events. Earn at least six punches per passport, and   participants can submit their passport(s) to be entered to win one of several prizes, including Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 tablets, iPads, and more.  The APS booth will be donating two Diamondbacks gift baskets, which will include 6 Diamondbacks tickets in each basket.

Spearheaded by the Arizona Commerce Authority, Arizona Science Center, the Arizona Technology Council Foundation, Arizona Board of Regents, the University of Arizona, and Arizona State University, the Arizona SciTech Festival is a grassroots collaboration of over 700 organizations in industry, academia, arts, civic, community, and K-12.

For more information, including a calendar of events and details about the passport program, go online to www.vvscitech.org. Learn more about the statewide Arizona SciTech Festival at www.azscitechfest.org.
