logo_ksbSedona AZ (July 8, 2015) – Keep Sedona Beautiful and the Sedona Verde Valley Red Rock National Monument Coalition will host an open public meeting concerning the proposed National Monument.  The meeting will be held on July 16, 2015 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Sedona Public Library located at 3250 White Bear Road, Sedona Arizona.

The purpose of the meeting is to provide the public with information on the proposed Sedona Verde Valley Red Rock National Monument (Monument) and facilitate a forum for questions.  The Coalition will update residents, businesses and other stakeholders with information on the Monument’s size, location, purpose, recreation and necessity of the Monument.

Creation of the Monument is an important step in preserving forest lands in the Sedona/Verde Valley region.  The Monument designation will also help protect an estimated 6,000 antiquities sites, open space, scenic views, riparian habitat and much more.  Monument status pertains only to National Forest land and by law cannot include private lands.  Businesses that have current contracts and permits with the Forest Service will continue to have those contracts.

This will be the first in a series of public meetings with residents and businesses in Sedona, Cottonwood and Clarkdale.  The next meeting will in Cottonwood on July 21, 2015 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Cottonwood Recreation Center, 150 S. 6th Street.

Information on the Monument can be found on the web at http://redrocknationalmonument.org/.  You can also go to the Monument’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/redrocknationalmonument.

    If I Were Curtis Sliwa
    By Tommy Acosta

One of my guilty little pleasures is imagining what I would do if I was in someone else’s shoes, especially politicians. In this essay I would love to jump into the shoes of Curtis Sliwa, a former New York City vigilante who founded the Guardian Angels and is now running as a Republican for mayor of his city.
