SEDONA, Ariz. – The Greater Flagstaff Region Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) Core Team will host a public meeting on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Hub at Posse Grounds Park, to solicit public input regarding an update to the CWPP.
The CWPP is a community-driven planning effort that assesses wildfire risk across the Greater Flagstaff Region, including Sedona, and identifies strategies to improve wildfire preparedness, mitigation, response coordination and recovery. The Core Team – consisting of representatives from local (including the city of Flagstaff and the city of Sedona), state and federal stakeholders – is leading the plan update process. Input from local agencies, fire service partners and community members will be incorporated into the updated plan. SWCA Environmental Consultants is serving as the technical consultant and assisting the Core Team with these efforts.
The meeting will provide an overview of the CWPP planning process, including how the plan is being updated, why the updated plan is important for the Greater Flagstaff Region and how residents can participate. The meeting will also include wildfire preparedness information relevant to homeowners, such as defensible space concepts and actions that can help reduce wildfire risk around homes and neighborhoods. Select members of the Core Team will be present and will be available to answer questions during the concluding question and answer segment.
A draft version of the updated CWPP is anticipated to be released for public review this fall, which will also include additional opportunities for residents to submit comments before the plan is finalized. Please contact Neil Chapman, wildland fire captain, city of Flagstaff, at neil.chapman@flagstaffaz.gov, or the CWPP development team at GreaterFlagstaffCWPP@swca.com with any questions.
