Sedona, AZ — Love quilting? Got questions? Members of the Red Rock Quilters will be the featured guests for “Monday at the Museum” on April 6, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Perhaps bring a small project to work on and enjoy the fellowship of quilting by getting your questions answered or just talking about the joy of quilting. They welcome all levels of quilters, fabric lovers, guests, and traveling quilters. There is no fee for this demonstration.
April 13, Verde Valley Wood Carvers
If you have a piece of wood and a wood carving knife, come to “Monday at the Museum” at Sedona Heritage Museum on Monday, April 13, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and join the Verde Valley Woodcarvers. Hundreds of people have tried their hand at carving with this group since its founding in 1997 by Norm Knight. The group consists of carvers ranging from beginners to master carvers. Come by with your own equipment or just come to watch these artisans do relief carving, chip carving, and bark carving. There is no fee for this demonstration.
April 20, Animal Tracks, Scat, and Signs
Join wilderness survival expert and Forest Service volunteer Al Cornell on April 20, from 11:00am-1:00pm, for this fascinating presentation on Animal Tracks, Scat, and Signs. Highlighted will be the variety of animal tracks visitors and residents encounter while walking or hiking in Red Rock Country. Included will be a display of plaster casts of many Southwest mammal and bird tracks, along with some scat displays. The focus will be on how to distinguish between the various species of wild canines, felines, Black Bear and the deer species by examining tracks and scat they will leave behind.
April 27, Verde Valley Fiber Artisans (formerly Verde Valley Spinners and Weavers)
Members of the Verde Valley Fiber Artisans will have their spinning wheels humming for “Monday at the Museum” at the Sedona Heritage Museum on April 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The spinners’ guild was formed over 35 years ago by Betty Gaudy and Mary Pendleton of the Pendleton Weaving Studio in Sedona along with a few weavers in the Verde Valley. The guild continues today with some 40 to 50 members actively pursuing fiber arts such as weaving, spinning, basket-making, and dyeing. Recently, the guild has expanded their fiber interest to include knitting, beading, felting, and remaking old clothing into something new and avoiding adding to the fast fashion waste. They would be happy to share their art with you, and to answer any questions you might have. There is no fee for this demonstration.
