Verde Valley News – It’s the giving season, and Verde Valley Caregivers Coalition partners are hanging gift request tags for our older adult clients on Gift Giving Trees around the Verde Valley.

Starting Friday, Nov. 29, we invite you to select gift tags from the trees, purchase needed items and return the wrapped gifts to a box located near each tree. VVCC will spread your joy by delivering your gift to our older adult neighbors around the Verde Valley.

Neighbors greatly appreciate each gift. This year, neighbors have asked for slippers, warm socks, or a calendar for the new year. Out of our 3,900 neighbors, approximately 1,300 live alone. Our Gift Giving Tree Program gives some neighbors the only present they will open this holiday season.

VVCC Neighbor Teri shared her appreciation with us after her and her husband received a gift last year. “The beautiful gloves you gave David and me last Christmas are still like new and will keep my hands warm for many Christmases to come. That you are all there and will help me if I call you, is the only special gift I need.”

This year people sent us unique gift ideas like a reverse coloring book. In it, pages of the book are filled with colors and artists draw lines around the color to turn it into a picture.

VVCC thanks the following locations for hosting trees. Please stop by to select gift tags:

    • Cottonwood Public Library, 100 S. 6th Street, Cottonwood, AZ
    • Sedona Public Library, 3250 White Bear Road, Sedona, AZ 86336
    • Village of Oak Creek Homeowners Association, 690 Bell Rock Blvd., Sedona, AZ 86351
    • Camp Verde Library, 130 N. Black Bridge Rd., Camp Verde, AZ 86322

The deadline to drop off gifts at a Giving Tree is Dec. 15.

We also invite you to consider giving back to our community’s older adults by volunteering with VVCC. Our volunteers drive older adults to medical appointments, shop for groceries with clients, provide handyperson help, respite assistance, and much more. You decide when, where, and how often you volunteer. Financial incentives are available for those who qualify. For information about services and/or volunteering please call (928) 204-1238.

VVCC is a 501 (c) (3), in its 32nd year, with approximately 3,900 older adults and adults with disabilities enrolled throughout the Verde Valley. VVCC’s services are provided at no cost to eligible clients.

    What Would I Change?
    By Amaya Gayle Gregory

What would I change if I could? You and I both know I can’t, but it’s a fun exercise anyway. I would have been less of a know-it-all on my spiritual journey. It seems to be a side-effect of the path. Spiritual folks develop an all-knowing buffer to protect against their inevitable surrender to the unknown, but understanding that now didn’t make it gentler on me or those I loved, let alone those that I deemed not capable of getting it 😉 Yeah … I’d have dropped the spiritual snob act. I’d have recognized that spiritual radicals are only different on the outside from radical right Christians, and that the surface doesn’t really matter as much as I thought. We are all doing our couldn’t be otherwise things, playing our perfect roles. I’d have learned to bow down humbly before my fellow man, regardless of whether I agreed with him or not. We’re all in this together and not one of us will get out alive. Read more→
