University Women of SedonaSedona AZ (October 17, 2018) – The University Women of Sedona will hold their November 5th meeting at Christ Lutheran Church, 25 Chapel Road, Sedona.

Almost 30% of area children live in poverty. 63% of third graders do not pass the Arizona Department of Education’s AzMerit Literacy Exam. Verde Valley First Books believes that by promoting an enthusiasm for books in young children, we can also encourage literacy and a love of reading later in their lives.

Peg Schlichtemeier, founder of Verde Valley First Books, will join us to share information about her organization’s mission to ensure that 4 year-olds living in poverty in Sedona and the Verde Valley have age appropriate books in their homes.

The University Women of Sedona meet the first Monday of each month October through May. Members and visitors are invited to come at 9:30 to socialize and share books. A special presentation and a brief business meeting follow.
