    Northern Arizona SCORE Wins District Chapter of the Year Award

    Organization Sees Double-Digit Growth in Clients Seeking Business Counseling

    logo_scoreVerde Valley AZ  (January 11, 2013) – For the second straight year, the Northern Arizona SCORE Chapter has won SCORE’s prestigious District Chapter of the Year Award. SCORE is a national non-profit volunteer organization that provides business counseling, workshops and community outreach programs for the benefit of small business owners and people wishing to start their own businesses.

    SCORE’s mission is to provide education, counseling and training to help America’s small businesses and entrepreneurs succeed. The organization provides free business counseling and mentoring, a variety of free business tools and awareness of other business resources to help start or grow a small business. Northern Arizona SCORE also conducts a variety of low-cost business building workshops throughout the year and in multiple locations in Prescott, the Verde Valley and Flagstaff.

    SCORE is a resource partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The Northern Arizona SCORE territory covers 3 counties, including Yavapai, Coconino and Mohave, with offices in Prescott, the Verde Valley and Flagstaff.

    SCORE has 35 active volunteers in Northern Arizona who in 2012 provided total services in client counseling, business building workshops and community outreach programs reaching over 8,000 people. SCORE Counselors mentor clients in person at one of their regional offices, via telephone and email.

    SCORE business building workshops in Northern Arizona during 2012 had a total attendance of 6,700 people. These figures put SCORE Northern Arizona at the 4th highest attended Chapter event amount in the country, including all of the 370 SCORE Chapters nationally. SCORE Northern Arizona counselors volunteered over 4,000 hours of their time to helping small businesses and entrepreneurs throughout the territory.

    The Northern Arizona SCORE Chapter is now in the running for the SCORE National Chapter of the Year Award. These results will be announced by the national organization on March 15, 2013.

    SCORE provides free business counseling to Northern Arizona business startups and existing enterprises through its offices and volunteer business counselors in Flagstaff, the Verde Valley and Prescott.     The Sad Lesson of Tyre Nichols

    Having grown up in the mean streets of the Bronx there is one lesson we learn early on, and that’s don’t mess with the cops when they got you down, and outnumbered. The beating of Tyre Nichols at the hands of the police preceding his death at the hospital could have been avoided if only he had the sense to not resist them. People fail to understand that on the streets, cops are basically “God.” You can’t fight them. If it takes one, two, five, ten or twenty officers they will eventually put you down and hurt you if they have to in the process of detaining or arresting you. In the Bronx we would fight amongst ourselves but when the cops came it was “Yes, officer. No, officer,” and do our best to look as innocent as possible. People need to understand that cops on the street represent the full power of the state and government. Read more→
