Sedona News – The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “The Encampments” showing May 2-8 at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre.

“The Encampments” is a groundbreaking documentary that chronicles the Columbia University Gaza Solidarity Encampment and the international wave of student activism it ignited.

Through exclusive footage and intimate interviews, “The Encampments” provides an unprecedented look at one of the most significant student movements in modern history. The film captures the passion, resilience, and challenges faced by students who risked everything to demand justice. “The Encampments” examines why universities responded with mass arrests and force rather than engagement and dialogue, and it sheds light on the institutions’ efforts to suppress student activism. In doing so, it offers a deeper understanding of both the power and the costs of grassroots movements.

The Columbia encampment began in April 2024 when nearly 50 students pitched tents on university grounds, beginning an occupation that would grow into a nationwide protest movement. The documentary follows the dramatic escalation, from Columbia’s administration banning student organizations for Palestine to the mass arrests that broke a 50-year police ban on campus.

As students faced police raids, media attacks, and institutional repression, their movement spread to universities across the country and beyond, making history in real time. The documentary includes access to the student organizers at several encampments, and also a whistleblower from high-up in the administration of an Ivy League university who shares exclusive insights into what was taking place within the halls of the ivory tower as students protested down below.

“Our film is a testament to the courage of young people to not only imagine a better world but to fight for it in the face of violence and repression,” said filmmakers Kei Pritsker and Michael T. Workman. “It reveals the true spirit of the encampments — what it felt like to be there, the emotions that fueled the students, and what motivated their drastic action, and it is an exploration of what drives a generation to stand up and fight for change.”

“The Encampments” will be shown at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre May 2-8. Showtimes will be Friday and Sunday, May 2 and 4 at 6:30 p.m.; and Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, May 5, 6, 7 and 8 at 3:30 p.m.

Tickets are $12 general admission, or $9 for Film Festival members. For tickets and more information, please call 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A, in West Sedona.  For more information, visit: www.SedonaFilmFestival.org.

Should prove interesting. Contrary to MAGA opinion it is not a crime to peacefully protest Criminal Tyranny and Intentional Genocide. Some times things get heated and turn violent. Sometimes outside agitators commit crimes like arson and looting as they did during the BLM Marches that were largely peaceful minus Criminals like Kyle Rittenhouse who attended the marches armed with the intention of creating anonymous so he could shoot unarmed people. First we genocidally take over a land not our own, next we enslave human beings and force them to do heavy manual labor under threat of violence and death. In the early 1900 s Irish, Italian and Polish Migrants were violently protested against upon their arrival in the US and called “White Ni@@ers-

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_nigger

In the 20’s it was Bonus Marching WWI veterans getting mowed down by Active Duty troops because they protested for the bonuses they were promised and never received. In the 50’s GI who were mostly farmers and poor protested for Educational Benefits. In the 60’s it was radical leftist committing violence upon GI’s and Government Offices. In the 80’s and 90’s it was armed militias against the US Government as a whole. Today it’s MAGA and Alt Right Fascist/militias against America.

And yet, somehow at some point in this time period people think America was great. Well, it certainly wasn’t for those who had no rights! And it certainly isn’t for those struggling from pay check to pay check while our government plays the stocks with their savings and livelihoods.

Well, just look around now? Where are those protests?Where are the protesters?

All you conspiracy people take note. Nothing has changed at all has it? Palestinians are still being steam rolled and killed yet where is the outrage?

You see you were manipulated! You sure were and Trump was going to bring peace, right?

So again, Russia was having fun on social media and you ate it up!
Remember that gut who went to jail? lol, yea which one! The one named Paul Manafort. Yep same guy that gave Russia poling data in the closest counties!

The more you embrace social media, the more you follow like lemmings!

So no protests, no encampment, and no election going on! Reminds me of those imaginary caravans that become all the rage before election time!

Wake up! or maybe its just to late?

Dave it’s already too late! The government and country are in complete disarray especially at the Defense level! Just waiting on Rusher and Chyyner to declare M’erica theirs and rename it the New USSR or Beijing II. The dumbasses who continue to support the criminal actions of twice impeached felonious insurrectionist Dump are long gone staunch NOTsee’s. ill Douchebag could nuke Canada and they’d still be his witto cheerleaders 📣!

        Absolutely Shameful!
