Sedona News – Chamber Music Sedona is excited to launch its 42nd concert season, which will run from December 8, 2024 to April 13, 2025. Featuring an impressive roster of some of the world’s most esteemed musicians, this season will enchant audiences with five concerts and a winter salon. All concerts (with the exception of the salon) will take place on Sunday afternoons at the Sedona Performing Arts Center, 995 Upper Red Rock Loop Rd, Sedona, Ariz. 86336.
“With a star-studded lineup of artists, our 42nd season is one of our biggest yet,” said Nick Canellakis, Chamber Music Sedona Artistic Director. “Grammy-winning guitarist Jason Vieaux starts our season off in style; venerated clarinetist David Shifrin will join the world-renowned Miró Quartet for a concert celebrating the legacy of ‘Kind of Swing’ Benny Goodman; married piano duo Alessio Bax and Lucille Chung will romance our audience with the magic of Piano 4-hands; pianist Wu Han will return with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the premiere chamber music organization of North America; and our season finale will welcome back none other than the legendary violinist Pinchas Zukerman with the Zukerman Trio.”
Considered “among the elite of today’s classical guitarists” (Gramophone Magazine), Jason Vieaux will open the season on December 8, returning to Sedona for a scintillating program of solo guitar. In appearances from New York’s Lincoln Center to Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw and the Seoul Arts Center, Vieaux has cemented his reputation as an artist of brilliance and uncompromised mastery. Hailed as “virtuostic, flamboyant, dashing and, sometimes ineffably lyrical” (New York Times) on stage, he is sought after for his extensive concerto repertoire and has performed with a long list of orchestras, renowned conductors, and enjoys repeated invitations from distinguished series.
Chamber Music Sedona’s 42nd season will continue in 2025 with “Rendezvous with Benny Goodman,” a concert performed by David Shifrin and the Miró Quartet on January 12. As one of America’s most celebrated string quartets, the Miró Quartet has performed on prestigious concert stages around the world. The Quartet consists of violinists Daniel Ching and William Fedkenheuer, violist John Largess and cellist Joshua Gindele. Described as “luminous” (New York Times), eminent clarinetist David Shifrin will join in a program of works for clarinet and quartet to honor the legacy of the “King of Swing,” Benny Goodman. With music ranging from Mozart to Peter Schickele to Goodman (including big band arrangements), this irresistible program is sure to dazzle audiences. The concert will be preceded by a winter salon featuring the Miró Quartet on January 10.
On February 16, married concert pianists Alessio Bax and Lucille Chung will perform “The Magic of Piano 4-Hands.” With their abundant artistic chemistry, passion and stunning virtuosity, the couple is considered among today’s most appealing and impressive piano duos. Their delightful program will celebrate the art of piano 4-hands, one of the most intimate and romantic forms of chamber music.
Acclaimed pianist Wu Han will return to Sedona with the performing artists of Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center – including cellist Sterling Elliott, double bassist Anthony Manzo, violist Paul Neubauer, and violinists Julian Rhee and Arnaud Sussmann – for a concert on March 23. The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center is recognized as the foremost chamber music organization in North America, influencing and shaping the chamber music world for over 50 years. Headlined by pianist and co-artistic director Wu Han, the group will present a rich program centered around Schubert’s Trout Quintet, one of the most beloved masterpieces in the repertoire.
Chamber Music Sedona’s 42nd season will culminate on April 13 with a concert by the Zukerman Trio. With a celebrated career encompassing five decades, Pinchas Zukerman reigns as one of today’s most sought-after and versatile musicians – a violin and viola soloist, conductor and chamber musician. He is renowned as a virtuoso and admired for the expressive lyricism of his playing, singular beauty of tone, and impeccable musicianship, which can be heard throughout his discography of over 100 albums for which he earned two Grammy® Awards and 21 nominations. Performing with Canadian Juno Award-winning Amanda Forsyth, considered one of North America’s most dynamic cellists, and pianist Shai Wosner, internationally recognized for his exceptional artistry, the Zukerman Trio will present an unforgettable concert of musical mastery.
