Sedona News – The city of Sedona invites city residents to participate in the city’s expanded community food scraps compost program now that there are 50 additional slots open. In the program’s first year, 50 Sedona households were invited to apply, with all the slots being filled within the first four months. With the start of the program’s second year, it will now be open to an additional 50 Sedona households with no extra cost to the city. Sedona News – The Cathedral Rock Trailhead on the Red Rock Ranger District of the Coconino National Forest will be closed to the public on Wednesday (July 19) due to the City of Sedona conducting work along Back O’ Beyond Road and the necessity to close the road which accesses the trailhead. The trail itself is open for hiking, but the public will need to access Cathedral Rock Trail through alternate trailheads, such as Baldwin Trail Trailhead or Little Horse Trailhead. The city’s work consists of installing a new concrete box culvert system at the low-water crossing along Back O’ Beyond Road.

Sedona News – The Arizona Department of Transportation advises Verde Valley area drivers to plan for daytime lane restrictions on State Route 179 beginning Monday, July 17, through Friday July 28. Coconino County News – The Flat Fire located north of the San Francisco Peaks and 4.5 miles west of U.S. Highway 89 (GPS: 35°28’04.0″N 111°39’16.3″W), began Monday, July 10, was caused from an individual burning grass trimmings. The fire is currently estimated to be 32% contained at 156 acres and started from a private citizen burning grass trimmings in a burn pit that got out of control due to wind conditions and spread quickly. Sedona News – In a collaborative effort between Manzanita Outreach, Yavapai County Community Health Services, and the Yavapai County Free Library District, a new website was launched this week to increase access to basic needs resources throughout Yavapai County. Individuals, social workers, and basic needs providers will use the site – MOHelp.org – as a simple process to find comprehensive support. All three organizations independently received funding in 2022 to support such an initiative.
