… there are few things more enjoyable than flying cloud canyons … and of course maintaining mandated distances. I took this shot in the area of the San Francisco Peaks on a very cloudy day; the clouds were below the rim in the Sedona area when I took off … up through a blue hole over the Verde Valley and the flight to the Peaks above the clouds and back down through another one up there. This was shot from west southwest of the peaks.

I took this shot just before turning into the gap between the clouds and giving full power to the engine … it climbs like a homesick angel and I cleared the ridge line between Humphreys Peak and Agassiz, both of which are buried in the clouds just right of center and on the right side. I was at 10,634′ when I took this shot … Humphreys Peak is 12,637′ and Agassiz 12,360′. Cloud base was about 10,000′ and tops about 13,000′. There was a gap in the clouds between the two peaks over the ridgeline which you cannot see from this viewpoint.

After spending a couple of hours photographing the area, it was back to Sedona on the top again and back down through a blue hole over the Verde Valley … I love this kind of flying!

Another beautiful day and I fully expect the day just begun will be also. Keep breathing and smile … you are blessed … you are alive!

    Cheers,

O sweet content! where is thy mild abode
Where I may dwell in endless peace?
Show me the much sought road
    And give the lease.

The answer came, “Then cease to vainly roam
In search of me, for thou wilt find
    My quiet, hidden home
    Within thy mind.”
