… out again tonight … studied up on features of equipment I seldom use … some help from a friend and a better result. I shot this a little while ago at 10:07 PM. Using my Canon 5D MK IV, and the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens. Shooting data: f/2.8, 5 seconds, ISO 12,800, 140mm … believe me, at 10:07 PM it was really dark. Took the shots tonight from a pull off area out Bill Grey Road a mile or so west of SR 89A … turn off at the Catholic church.
NEOWISE was just about to set and it was beautiful tonight. Originally we were going to shoot near the high school or Yavapai College, but the clouds there plus obstruction of Bear Mountain provided the reason to go further south and west to give us a better angle. Do not know if the people at our original spot ever saw the comet as the clouds seemed to stay up there. The little red line upper left quadrant is an airplane … that is how far it moved in five seconds.
So, it will be bright for several more days … look towards a heading between 315 degrees and 335 degrees and at sunset about 15 degrees up from the horizon. If you hold up your fist with your arm full extended and place the bottom of the fist on the horizon you have about 10 degrees on the top of your fist.
Wild ride on Lake Mary today … after I got to the very SE end of the lake, it began to pour … like really heavy rain and strong winds. Fun, got some good shots and was thoroughly soaked … got some good shots, but got off the lake when it began thundering.
