… with all of the smoke, haze and clouds the sky had a rather ominous quality this morning. This is a shot I took of the Museum fire this morning; they have a TFR (temporary flight restriction) over the fire from ground to 13,000’ due to the many aircraft, and helicopters they have in to fight the blaze. I took this shot from 14,865’ which was well above the restricted airspace. Currently the fire is around 1,000 acres and is about 10% contained.

The actual museum (Museum of Northern Arizona) is a long way from the fire and for whatever reason a very non-descriptive name was assigned to the fire. The lower right corner is Mt. Elden … above the smoke you can see O’Leary Peak and on the left the San Francisco Peaks. The museum is off the picture to the left … many miles away, so no fears about a lot of beautiful art and history going up in smoke. Mt. Elden is one of several exogenous dacite domes in the San Francisco Volcanic Field … these are formed by very viscous lava building up and forming overlapping flows of a rather bulbous nature … almost looks like an elephant foot in this photo.

It was cool up there which was welcome … 46 degrees F at 14,865’. So sweet!

Kind of torn between flying again in the morning and being semi responsible and begin documenting the opal and taking initial photographs of it … with all the smoke in the air I think I’ll opt for the opal project and the great and cool indoors.

Have a beautiful day, smile at those you meet and greet today and mostly … enjoy the beauty of being alive … and keep breathing!

    Cheers

Though changed as are my songs from youth,
A voice within my heart still sings,
Live thou in tenderness and truth,
And love mankind instead of things.
