City of Sedona ArizonaSedona AZ (November 9, 2017) – Cozy sweaters, fuzzy boots, crisp air and flushed faces… Fall has arrived with winter right on its coattail. Look to Parks and Recreation to keep you bustling throughout the holiday season.

Jump into the holiday spirit on Dec. 2 for Breakfast with Santa. 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. the Posse Grounds Hub will be transformed. Wonderful community volunteers are on hand to help dish up free pancakes and eggs provided by the Sedona Elks Lodge, following breakfast there are crafts and activities for the kids and time to take a picture and visit with Santa Claus!

photo_rachelmurdockBe dazzled by the virtual transformation of Sedona’s natural landscape during Sedona Northern Lights, a light painting experience. This one of a kind show is the world’s largest 3D mapping project on a natural canvas. Sedona Northern Lights takes place Dec. 14-17 with shows at the top of the hour 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and can be seen throughout Uptown Sedona and gallery row, projected on Camelhead Rock, next to Snoopy Rock. This once in a lifetime event is brought to you by the partnership of the Sedona Chamber of Commerce, city of Sedona and many invested sponsors. Celebrate earth’s greatest treasure during this holiday light spectacular!

Staying active while staying warm can prove challenging during the winter. Check out our year-round water aerobics and AquaZumba program that continues indoors for the winter season. Water aerobics is a leader in low impact aerobic exercise, allowing the participant to work at their own pace while toning muscles, working range of motion and getting their heart rate moving. Water aerobics is available Monday and Wednesday and AquaZumba is available Tuesday and Thursday. All classes are held 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Villas of Sedona in their indoor pool, 120 Kaloff Pl. Feel free to drop in and see what it’s all about.

Breakfast with Santa, Sedona Northern Lights and Indoor Water Aerobics are just some of the great offerings your local Parks and Recreation Department has to offer this fall and winter. It is always best to check our events calendar at SedonaAz.gov/Parks to ensure you don’t miss out on Yappy Hour, Tennis Lessons and more. We also offer eNotify online where you can sign up to receive email notifications about upcoming Parks and Recreation news and events. You can also follow along with the department’s daily activities @SedonaParksandRec on Facebook. So much to do, and all of fall and winter to do it in!

    If I Were Curtis Sliwa
    By Tommy Acosta

One of my guilty little pleasures is imagining what I would do if I was in someone else’s shoes, especially politicians. In this essay I would love to jump into the shoes of Curtis Sliwa, a former New York City vigilante who founded the Guardian Angels and is now running as a Republican for mayor of his city.
