City of Sedona ArizonaSedona AZ (September 12, 2017) – The city of Sedona is currently seeking to fill two positions on the Historic Preservation Commission, because two current members’ terms will be expiring. This voluntary body consists of seven citizens appointed and established by city council to promote and protect Sedona’s historic character and identity.

More specifically, as an extension of the Arizona State Preservation Office, the Historic Preservation Commission reviews the approval of restoration and improvements to designated historical landmark homes and properties. The commission’s service is part of a larger effort state and nationwide to preserve historic landmarks, which in Sedona relates mainly to the city’s pioneer heritage.

“Preserving Sedona’s history is an important element of the community fabric linking us all to the past pioneers of this great place. Volunteers on the Historic Preservation Commission play a key role in helping the city maintain this link to the past for current and future residents and visitors,” says Warren Campbell, assistant director of community development.

The term of service for each of the voluntary positions begins Dec. 1, 2017, and ends on Nov.30, 2020, or until a successor is appointed. Applications are available for pick up in the City Clerk office at City Hall located at 102 Roadrunner Dr. or by accessing a fillable PDF version from our website at www.sedonaaz.gov.  Return the completed application to the City Clerk office by Oct. 2, 2017, 5 p.m.

To learn more about the Historic Preservation Commission’s particular responsibilities contact Campbell at 928-203-5044 or WCampbell@SedonaAZ.gov.

    If I Were Curtis Sliwa
    By Tommy Acosta

One of my guilty little pleasures is imagining what I would do if I was in someone else’s shoes, especially politicians. In this essay I would love to jump into the shoes of Curtis Sliwa, a former New York City vigilante who founded the Guardian Angels and is now running as a Republican for mayor of his city.
