logo_cwag3Verde Valley AZ (August 25, 2016) – We hear local officials promising to protect the upper Verde River, but where is it and what makes it so special?

Come find out from filmmaker Gary Beverly when he shows his film, “Viva la Verde!” to the Citizens Water Advocacy Group (CWAG) on Saturday, Sept. 10 from 10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Granite Peak Unitarian Universalist Congregation building, 882 Sunset in Prescott (two blocks behind True Value). There’s no charge and everyone is welcome.

“Viva la Verde!” unveils the value of and the threats to Northern Arizona’s upper Verde River, a little-known and under-appreciated river supporting some of the best surviving riparian habitat in the Southwest. The 58-minute video, produced by Hugh Denno and Gary Beverly, tells the story of the history, ecology, geology, and hydrology of the river using animations and interviews with scientists and river activists. The film features outstanding photography and video footage collected during five years of exploring the river. “Viva la Verde!” concludes by demonstrating how individual citizens can help preserve this unique and wonderful river, the only surviving living perennial river in Arizona.

A lively discussion of upper Verde River issues will follow the film’s showing. For more info, call 445-4218, e-mail info@cwagaz.org or visit www.cwagaz.org.
