City of Sedona ArizonaSedona AZ (July 25, 2016) – Sedona residents and visitors are invited to join thousands of other communities nationwide in celebrating the annual National Night Out with safety presentations and a free community picnic on Saturday, August 6, 2016 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Posse Grounds Park, at 525 Posse Ground Road. National Night Out focuses on crime and drug prevention awareness while generating support for, and participation in local anticrime efforts.

“National Night Out is a great event to strengthen Sedona’s community spirit through the fostering of police and community partnerships. Now more than ever, it’s important for the Sedona Police Department and the community to support each other in anticrime and drug prevention efforts,” said Interim Chief of Police Ron Wheeler.

Free hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and water donated by local merchants will be served along with live demonstrations, music and a wide range of information on public safety topics. Those attending can see the latest in law enforcement, firefighting, safety and rescue equipment; learn ways to make their homes and streets safer; and meet community public safety officials.

    If I Were Curtis Sliwa
    By Tommy Acosta

One of my guilty little pleasures is imagining what I would do if I was in someone else’s shoes, especially politicians. In this essay I would love to jump into the shoes of Curtis Sliwa, a former New York City vigilante who founded the Guardian Angels and is now running as a Republican for mayor of his city.
