Sedona AZ (May 14, 2014) – The public is urged to avoid Sterling Pass Trail #46 from the Oak Creek Canyon access on State Route 89A until further notice.
Due to recent high winds, there are numerous hazardous trees fallen and leaning in the Oak Creek Canyon area, an area with narrow tread and steep drop-offs. The public is urged to avoid the trail as sawyers remove hazardous trees. As this area is within the Red Rock Secret Mountain Wilderness where chain saw use is prohibited, crosscut saws will be used. A sign has been posted alerting visitors of the hazards.
Many other trails exist in the area accessing great views of the Red Rock Secret Mountain Wilderness including Wilson Mountain, Wilson Canyon, and Brins Mesa.
The Forest Service strives to keep trails safe for everyone. For more information, please contact the Red Rock Ranger District at (928) 203-2900.
