logo_elportalsedonaSedona AZ (May 28, 2013) – Opened June, 2003 El Portal Sedona Hotel celebrates its 10th anniversary. To commemorate this milestone here is a brief look back at the journey in design and architecture that went into its thoughtful creation.

The vision of an exceptional luxury hotel was that of transplanted California natives, Steve and Connie Segner. “We wanted to build an exceptional luxury inn, a hacienda where strangers are welcomed like family; a retreat where they can enjoy the serene, ageless spirit of Sedona in historic yet luxurious surroundings, and it had to be pet friendly.” says Segner, “We are thrilled to be celebrating the 10th anniversary of El Portal.”

20130528_El-Portal-Sedona-Great-Room-51El Portal Sedona is aptly named for it is a portal to old world charm. All architectural and design work was performed following original practices utilizing minimal technology. It was important the building materials were gathered from as many natural sources as possible; windows are framed in recycled 200-year-old wood, ceilings with 100 year-old wood beams, and river rock fireplaces are just some of the natural materials used. The simplicity and function of turn-of-the-century architecture serves to build and nurture an invited sense of culture and spirit of the past.

The unique elements of El Portal Sedona are captured in the individual guest suites as well. Each is distinctively decorated with tasteful furnishings from the early 20th century Arts and Crafts movement as well as Art Deco and Southwestern Antique. Some suites feature rockwork and native stones while others showcase woodworking and peeled Juniper logs. Guest suites may include adobe fireplaces, hand-painted ceilings, arched windows, stained glass accents and claw foot tubs. The Segners’ mission has always been to evoke a sense of peace and calmness for all their guests, two and four-legged alike.

The Sedona Arizona luxury hotel prides itself on creating a retreat environment where guests can enjoy the serenity of the magnificent red rock landscapes. The Segners continue to go to great lengths to create and maintain the authentic hacienda feeling. This internationally acclaimed boutique hotel offers a unique lodging experience, one of unpretentious luxury combined with outstanding personal service. The architecture and design of El Portal Sedona Hotel connects guests with the mystical spirit that is Sedona.
