Sedona, AZ — On Wednesday, October 15th, the Friends of the Forest (FOF) is hosting a Welcome event at the Red Rock Ranger Station in Sedona.  FOF looks forward to seeing not only new members, but also anyone interested in learning about and hopefully joining our organization.

At this event, you’ll hear from District Ranger Alex Schlueter about the value FOF brings to the Forest Service, our Friends of the Forest President, Melissa Pontikes about the benefits of membership, and our current Volunteers about FOF activities that they are involved in.

The mission of Friends of the Forest is to support the Red Rock District of the Coconino National Forest. FOF helps fill the gap between the needs of the district and its limited resources, supplying person-power and financing for projects that the Forest Service would otherwise not be able to afford.

FOF supports the Red Rock District by assisting in the maintenance of trails, educating visitors at the Red Rock Visitor Center, removing graffiti, reducing damage caused by human impact, engaging in research projects as citizen scientists, enhancing the outdoor experience for all, and more. It provides a way for volunteers to establish long-lasting friendships while contributing to the community and making a real difference. FOF offers volunteer opportunities for everyone: inside or out, alone or with others, easy or strenuous.

With visitation increasing every year, more and more stress is put on our natural resources.  FOF helps relieve that stress, enhancing the natural experience for visitors and residents alike.

To help Friends of the Forest protect the natural beauty of Sedona and the Verde Valley, please join us at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 15th at the Red Rock Ranger Station, 8375 State Route 179. To learn more, visit www.friendsoftheforestsedona.org.

    Does it Really Matter?

Does it matter if life is illusory or real, if this a material world like most everyone thinks or a dream? It looks and feels real, it offers sensations and feelings that attest to its realness.
