Sedona News – The three Verde area Questers chapters recently presented checks to Keep Sedona Beautiful (KSB) to be used for preservation and restoration (P&R) work on the historic landmark Pushmataha building.
THE QUESTERS is an organization of antique and preservation enthusiasts whose mission is to keep history alive through preservation, restoration and education. As part of this mission, the local chapters raise funds to support historic preservation projects.
Palatki Questers member Lou Anne Scott said: “The members of the local Questers chapters were looking for a project we could partner on and were excited when we discovered the need at KSB.”
Over its 75 years, the KSB headquarters has aged, especially with degradation from water intrusion. The gifts from The QUESTERS will go toward new fascias, gutters and caulking.
The Pushmataha building, home to KSB, is a designated Local Historic Landmark built in 1960 and located at 360 Brewer Road. “The building gained its historic honor because of its history as an early Sedona museum and retail store, and for its in-tact Old-West architectural style. Because of its landmark status and the type of structural work needed, the project qualified for a Questers P&R grant.” per Janeen Trevillyan, a member of Sedona Questers.
Diana Hooper, president of Verde Valley Questers noted the project as another example of how THE QUESTERS have helped preserve history and historic places in the Verde, to-date totalling almost $50,000 in grants over the years.
Representatives of the three Questers chapters gathered to celebrate their donation at a meeting that coincided with a visit from THE QUESTERS’ International President Daphne Davis.
Davis elaborated that “What the three Verde chapters have done collaboratively is exactly what THE QUESTERS at every level strive for, and that is to encourage the preservation of historical landmarks and to stimulate the appreciation of antiques through their study.”
Local chapters meet in member homes and share information about their collections and topics of historical interest. The three local chapters have helped with historic preservation projects in Sedona, Clarkdale, Cottonwood, and Camp Verde.
