Sedona News – The University Women of Sedona (UWoS) will host their next informational meeting on Monday, March 3 at 9:30 a.m. when Steve King, Yavapai County School Superintendent, and Genna Adams, VACTE instructor will share the podium to bring the group important insight into some of the most pressing issues of education in the Verde Valley. The program will also include an Opportunity Drawing for dozens of gift certificates and items donated by local businesses. The donations raised will go toward the group’s scholarship fund. Guests to this meeting will be welcomed with free drawing tickets.
Steve King will speak about the impact of social media and technology on today’s youth and implications for the future of education. Genna Adams will focus on the impact of the nation-wide teacher shortage and what that means locally.
Steve has lived in the Verde Valley for the last 23 years, raising his family in Camp Verde. He is an award winning educator and administrator, and has served the education community in every capacity from Teacher’s Aide to Superintendent. He believes that “education forms the basis of all other professions and forms a foundation of strong and effective citizenship.”
Genna is a 40+ year educator having taught at all grade levels, from kindergarten through twelfth grade. She works with students in the Verde Valley who are interested in pursuing a career in education. In her role, she collaborates with industry partners and community members to build and sustain a teacher recruitment program for young aspiring educators.
This meeting is open to women in the Verde Valley who are interested in this topic and the opportunity to network with other women who are involved in elevating women through education. Guests are invited to attend this or a future meeting. University Women of Sedona’s mission is to give scholarships to support women in furthering their educational opportunities to an accredited local college or university. Refreshments will be served.
