    By Scott Jablow, Sedona Mayor

    Sedona,Az — Hello Sedona.Biz Readers:

I wanted to share some actions I have taken on your behalf during my first few months as your new mayor:

This past January we held our annual retreat where we discussed Council Priorities for 2023/24 focusing on the following items: reducing congestion on city roads and at trailheads, implementing new transit options, enhancing regulations on short-term rentals and OHVs, partnering with developers to build workforce housing, improving communications with residents, and continuing to provide new amenities for local residents. Some new projects include an evaluation of the acquisition of the Sedona Airport from Yavapai County, updating our Land Development Code, and acquiring property for preservation and access to Oak Creek.

Just witnessed the low flying loud a@@ fighter jet squadron fly in and out of the Sedona airport and circle over West Sedona for several minutes creating noise similar to that of a flight deck on a naval aircraft carrier! So why was it that the tourist helicopters were forced out of Sedona? Oh yeah the freakin noise!
I understand military in flight emergencies and medical flights popping into Sedona now and again. But the Sedona airport has gone from a tourism airport to an all out military base hosting attack helicopters, fighter jets and even naval sub hunters. These aircraft all have home bases to fuel at and military support bases with already paid for tax payer paid for fuel. So why do they have to refuel in Sedona? There are UCMJ laws against misappropriation of a military vehicle, aircraft and naval vessels. I’m guessing the Sedona City Council and Airport managers are making money hand over fist with whatever contracts they have set up with GSA for fuel, food and lodging of these aircraft and their crews!
Think there needs to be a clear explanation as to why we have gone from noisy tourist helicopters to even noisier military aircraft! It’s absurd to say the least!
