logo yavapai country sherrif1Cottonwood AZ (December 6, 2012) – This Saturday, December 8th, 2012, the annual Verde “Shop with a Cop” event is taking place in Cottonwood. This is the 10th year that law enforcement agencies from the Verde Valley have joined together to provide a special holiday shopping experience for area children. These children have been carefully selected with help from local schools and social service agencies. The goal of the “Shop with a Cop” program is to help families with needed financial assistance and to allow the kids to experience positive interaction with law enforcement officers. The day begins with breakfast for the children at the Cottonwood Police Department and a meet and greet with Santa at the Cottonwood airport. The children then join their selected officer in a patrol car ride-a-long with lights and siren. As a result, we would like to advise the community and motorists that a controlled police “parade” will take place at about 9am along Hwy 89A from about 6th Street to Highway 260, where it will conclude at Wal-mart. Sirens will most likely be heard as the vehicles approach Wal-mart.

The Verde “Shop with a Cop” would like to thank the community for ten years of support of this worthwhile program!

If you have any questions or comments, please contact “Shop with a Cop” coordinator Deputy Scott Reed at (928) 777-7253. Deputy Reed is also the Director of the Right-by-Kids program featuring the ever popular “Deputy Do-Right.” As a Law Enforcement Education Deputy, Deputy Reed and his staff conduct safety programs for schools and community groups throughout the year in Yavapai County. Please contact Deputy Reed for further information or to schedule a safety assembly for your school.

Citizens can contact the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office with information or questions at 928-771-3260 or the YCSO website: www.ycsoaz.gov
