Verde Valley News – Yavapai College has announced the launch of a 120-credit Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science.

Registration for fall 2025 semester classes opens on Monday, April. 14, with the classes starting at the beginning of the fall semester on Monday, August 18. Anyone interested in pursuing the degree should go online to www.yc.edu/bscs to learn more.

This is the third baccalaureate degree offered by Yavapai College. In May 2022, Arizona Senate Bill 1453 passed into state law, allowing community colleges in Arizona to offer baccalaureate degrees, and Yavapai College was the first rural community college in Arizona to do so.

Technology is at the heart of modern industries, and a bachelor’s degree in computer science can open the door to high-demand, high-paying careers. Many entry-level positions in software development, cybersecurity, and IT require a bachelor’s degree, and professionals without one may find it challenging to advance in their careers. Earning this degree can lead to greater job opportunities, higher salaries, and long-term career stability.

YC is proud to offer a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree at just $169 per credit*, which is a fraction of the cost for the same degree at most universities.

The degree is designed to equip students with the technical skills and problem-solving abilities needed for success in the field. The program covers essential areas such as programming, cybersecurity, data structures, artificial intelligence, and software development. Students can enter as freshmen or transfer in at any time.

Students can complete the degree at their own pace. Whether starting from scratch or transferring credits, enrollers can finish in as little as two and a half years full-time or up to six years part-time. Up to 60 prior learning credits may be applied, helping students reach their goals even faster.

    About the Degree
The 120-credit Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Degree:
    • Is designed for new students, continuing students, or graduates. Those who are fresh out of high school, have no college, or already have an associate degree in any discipline can enroll.
    • Is offered entirely online.
    • Students can attend full-time or part-time classes based on YOUR schedule.
    • Phenomenal student support with immediate access to advisors embedded within your classes, student IT and computer help after hours when you need help.
    • No guesswork: classes are designed with consistent due dates, guaranteed weekly grades posted and updates.
    • Relevant up-to-date information via expert guest speakers from the field.
    • Students can transfer in and students can receive credit for prior learning.
    • This degree can be completed in the traditional pattern for a full-time student of 30 credits per year, which will take four years to complete.
    • You can complete coursework through eight-week classes, significantly reducing completion time. The eight-week classes will start in August, October, January, March, and June.
The degree is incredibly affordable compared to other baccalaureate degree options. Please see our Tuition and Fees page at https://www.yc.edu/v6/academics/tuition-fees-2026.html for pricing. Registration for classes begins on April 14, and the classes start at the beginning of the fall semester on August 18.

Yavapai College operates seven campuses and centers throughout Yavapai County and offers over 100 degrees and certificates, two baccalaureate degrees (with two more pending accreditation approval), student and community services, and cultural events and activities. *Tuition varies by course and level. For fall 2025, Computer Science courses at Yavapai College range from $113 for lower-level courses to $169 for upper-level courses.
