Verde Valley News – Verde Valley Caregivers Coalition swings into the holidays with the fundraising event of the year — the Black and White Gala a la 60s. The fundraiser will be held Friday, Nov. 22, 5 to 9 p.m. at Enchantment Resort & Spa.

The public is invited to enjoy a wine and appetizer reception, dinner, dancing, and live and silent auctions featuring vacation packages, private dinner parties, dining gift certificates, local golf and jeep excursions, artwork, jewelry, and gift baskets.

Fans of “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” iconic pearls and James Bond martinis will enjoy a black and white theme with colorful twists. Live music played by the Lucky Devils Band will sample tunes from 60s icons Henry Mancini and Burt Bacharach. Guests are asked to dress with an air of the debonair, think James Bond and “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.”

“This year’s gala is a fabulous opportunity to directly impact thousands of people who need our help ever year,” said VVCC Executive Director Kent Ellsworth. “It’s also an opportunity for a wonderful evening, a reminder of why we love to live in the Verde Valley.”

Proceeds from VVCC’s annual event support programs and services to help older adults and adults with disabilities live independently in their homes.

“Our demand for long distance trips has skyrocketed this year. This time last year, we had approximately five requests for long-distance rides per day. This year, the demand has shot up to 12 long-distance rides per day,” Ellsworth adds. VVCC defines long-distance rides as trips to-and-from Verde Valley to medical appointments in Flagstaff, Prescott, or Phoenix.

VVCC has helped Shelia, 80, for six years with 29 requests for grocery shopping, medical trips for a knee replacement, and monthly social outings.

After her husband passed, she went through a period of low energy but has really loved the social outings since she recently began attending.

“Verde Valley Caregivers Coalition has been a life saver,” Shelia said.

VVCC is a 501 (c) (3), in its 32nd year, with approximately 3,900 older adults and adults with disabilities enrolled throughout the Verde Valley. VVCC’s services are provided at no cost to eligible clients. Volunteers provide many of the services. For information about services and/or volunteering please call (928) 204-1238.

I was talking to the Sedona.biz publisher/editor the other day, Tommy Acosta, and learned that our common friend Fernando Rivera of North Carolina passed away. It was reported that life and time caught him and then overcame him, and his heart quietly and suddenly failed.
