this will be … giving a presentation tomorrow morning to a USFS group at Embry Riddle in Prescott and then a round table discussion in the afternoon … Smoke Management Techniques is the subject. Should be a terrific session and I’m looking forward to it.

    "Flare" by Ted Grussing

This is a shot of a great blue heron that I shot early in January and his right foot is only an inch or so off the ground, the left one a little higher, but coming down. The wings are on the way to full flare mode … just like the flaps on commercial jets roll way down providing additional lift and braking action at the same time … good old parasitic drag!

Friday I will be presenting at the Mary Fisher Theater in Sedona and you can check the promo out and buy tickets on their website at: https://prod5.agileticketing.net/WebSales/pages/info.aspx?evtinfo=124351~e8932fbb-a9ae-4437-a638-ff0cf1793527&epguid=f7b94766-699c-4aa0-9f9b-8245a9cefc05&

This is without question the finest presentation I have yet put together and I think you will enjoy it.

As an added bonus, a very famous duo will be staffing the sales table in the lobby … Finley and his accomplice Michele … they will be selling portraits of Finley (almost signed by him). Half the proceeds of these portraits will be going to International Raptor & Falconry Center of which Finley is the smallest, but biggest star. We will be selling 8 x 10 photos of him for only $10.00. My books and greeting cards will also be on sale after the presentation.

So come and enjoy the beauty of where we live and the critters that are our neighbors … it is a magnificent section of our beautiful little planet. Looking forward to seeing you there.

    Cheers

Time was when men held saner counsel here.
Will that time come again? Shall we behold
From this grim madness some new love unfold?
We pray for gentler times, when men shall cease
His brother man to bully or to fear.
Great God, amongst ourselves let us have peace!

    The Symbolism of Jan. 6

    By Tommy Acosta
Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
