… the butterfly known as Postman (neotropical) that is. Last Friday we headed down to Butterfly World in Scottsdale for a change of pace and it was absolutely magnificent! Because I have this thing about wanting to catch anything with wings in flight I did a lot of shooting. I could not find any particular movement or clue that they were going to fly, so a lot of multi-shot bursts and I did get some in flight and this is one of them. Not sure what the other one is because I do not find it on the list they provide you when you enter. Caution, recommend the experience when it is cooler … Scottsdale was 112F and the inside of the butterfly area was over 100F and about 99% humidity. We lasted about 4 hours.

The photo below shows Michele releasing Quinn the Ferruginous Hawk into flight; Michele will be at the show with Finley the American Kestrel at the Mary Fisher Theater on September 10th at 4P. Be sure to have your photo taken with them after the show … cell phones work great for that. Check her website International Raptor and Falconry Center out!

There are also plans for two photo workshops that I will be conducting with Michele and the raptors, so if you have an interest in that, please contact her. I am donating my time, so all funds raised from the workshops will be used by the organization to help raptors. Space is limited to five per workshop.

Into another new week and the slate is clean … each of us get to decide what we will do with each moment and day … choose well and have an absolutely wonderful week … the kind that makes you glad you are alive!

    Cheers,

O Sweet content! where is thy mild abode
Where I may dwell in endless peace?
    Show me the much-sought road
    And give the lease.
The answer came, “Then cease to vainly roam
In search of me, for thou wilt find
    My quiet, hidden home
    Within thy mind.”

    The Symbolism of Jan. 6

    By Tommy Acosta
Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
