… after church, a shoot at the ponds and a Walmart run, I called my friend “not just any” John to see if he was available for a latte and he was, so a stop at Safeway to get the lattes and then a quick run over to his studio. I missed the opportunity to shoot a female sculpture that he is finishing up and he told me he had already made a run to Phoenix with the first body parts he had cut off yesterday and after I left today he was going to cut the arms and other parts off to bring down to Phoenix tomorrow.
Attached is the finished clay sculpture before he began cutting body parts off … a wire garrote is the preferred method … as you are looking at this image you can tell what a beautiful bronze it will be (about 7’ high) and very reasonably priced at around $90,000.00. The reason for the dismemberment is simple … you cannot cast an object of this size in a single piece. After the body parts have been cast, then John will weld them back together and then with his vast skills will reaffirm in bronze what he had in clay.
Next subject: Derek Von Briesen and I were going to have a summer sale of our prints this coming weekend. Due to recent events it will be necessary to delay the sale. New dates will be in October, November and December at John Soderberg’ s Gallery in West Sedona … definitely a fun place to stop and shop and John will give you an education in the sculpting process … and he does classes as well. http://johnsoderberg.com/ , http://tedgrussing.com , http://sedonaphototours.com/
The concert at the Mary D. Fisher theater last night was sold out … Anthony gave one the finest performances I have seen him do yet and the combination of the visual and audio experience was very well received … so much so that we are doing the concert again on August 1, 2015 at the Mary D. Fisher theater and there are already a substantial number of presales for that performance. If you would like to attend I would suggest you buy your tickets now as every indication points to it being sold out weeks before the concert. You can buy the tickets at: http://tinyurl.com/AnthonyandTed .
Got a tinyurl name as the actual url stretched on for a couple of lines. If you have ever experienced the joys of those url’ s that stretch on forever I would recommend going to http://tinyurl.com and make a unique short name … particularly helpful when sharing dropbox folders.
I like the grace of this pelican as he flies low over the waters in the marina at Half Moon Bay, California. The gentle ripples in the otherwise glassy surface of the water distort the masts of the ships in their slips and give the appearance of the pelican being on a puppeteers strings … or not :+) A lot of seaside shooting to do in the next few months and in particular the Northern California coastal areas and towns.
Time to wrap the day as I plan on being in the air quite early in the morning. Some beautiful sculpted ridgelines near the extreme NW end of the Painted Desert and also some areas near Page I want to get tomorrow morning … then back to Sedona, a visit with a friend and then down to Phoenix in the afternoon to take care of a little business and home in the evening.
Have a beautiful day and share your joy with all you meet today … always nice to receive a smile and necessary for one to do it for another to receive it … might as well be you :+)
Cheers
Ted
So each one to his wish, and as for me,
I sit tonight and wait
To find the answers to my soul in me,
And in the beauty of the sky and sea.
