… what a treat it was to find a pod of White Pelicans on Lake Roosevelt last week … they are massive with average weights in the 15 to 20 pound range and 30 pounds is not uncommon. Wing spans can reach 10 feet, so when looking at the photo above, from wing tip to wingtip is about two thirds of the length of my boat (14′). They take off with both webbed feet pushing off at the same time as they head down the watery runway, reaching for the sky and they are excellent soaring machines too!

Below is the rest of the story or perhaps the rest of the bird … an Osprey just taking off from some small branches and heading out over the lake … those are the feet that I featured last night. Ospreys have wingspans in the five to six foot range … wonderful creatures!

I’m not having great luck with espresso machines … the first one was DOA and now the second one is going back … must have been a previous return as parts missing and nothing works like it is supposed to. Third one ( a substantial upgrade from these two) will arrive on Thursday.

Terrific day today with lots accomplished and a late lunch with friends who flew in to Sedona for a short visit. Talked to Russ a few days ago and I’m thinking about getting current again … more aerial shots I want in the portfolio. If you would ever like to learn to fly, Russ is your go to guy at Sky King Soaring in Payson Arizona.

Another chance to get it all right tomorrow … have a beautiful day and share the joy you find in life … lots of it to go around.

    Cheers,

    Ted

I yield myself to the thousand enchantments of sky and field and wood, and play again like a child on the soft green of the earth. And as the God of the universe has made thee to bloom in tenderness, so also may my heart be softened, and the gardens of my life be made to bloom again.

    A Bad Moon Rising

    By Tommy Acosta
What the hell is going on? Is the fabric of society in the U.S. tearing apart at the seams? Watching those videos of teens gone wild, smashing windows, stealing from shopping centers, laughing while running over bicyclists — an omen of things to come? What can be done? Catch them? Incarcerate them. Put them in jails until they learn enough about crime to come out as skilled criminals? These kids, these young men and women of color, are growing wild in the streets. From fatherless homes, unable to properly read or write, a dismal and destitute future ahead of them. What is going to happen when they reach adulthood? The cops can’t stop them. There are simply too many. They can flash mob a phalanx of cops and just run berserk around them. What are the police to do? Shoot them? Read more→
