“Eddie Cochran: Don’t Forget Me” is the first fully authorised documentary on rock ‘n’ roll trailblazer Eddie Cochran, produced by Oscar and BAFTA-winning Goldfinch Entertainment and featuring an extraordinary collection of music and entertainment legends on film.
Sixty-five years after Cochran’s tragic death at age 21, the film brings together exclusive on-camera interviews with some of the most influential names in music and entertainment. Contributors include Keith Richards, Kiefer Sutherland, Yungblud, Ronnie Wood, Roger Daltrey, Sting, Alice Cooper, Rod Stewart, Linda Perry, Billy Idol, John Waters, Peter Frampton, Brian Setzer, Suzi Quatro, Stephen Sanchez, and members of the Cochran family. The documentary blends these interviews with rare archival material and select reconstructions, with Jack Harris portraying Cochran and Frances Barber as his mother, tracing Cochran’s meteoric rise, pioneering sound and enduring cultural impact.
Cochran’s music shaped generations, influencing artists from The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix to The Who and the Sex Pistols, and continues to inspire contemporary musicians. Five of his songs have been covered over 500 times by artists including The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Jack White, Rod Stewart, Bruce Springsteen, Led Zeppelin, The Who, the Sex Pistols, and T. Rex. Paul McCartney’s cover of Cochran’s “Twenty Flight Rock” famously got him into The Beatles, impressing John Lennon at their very first meeting.
The documentary has screened to two sold-out audiences at Raindance Film Festival in London, where it received an outstanding response. It was nominated for Best Documentary, Best Director and Best Cinematographer, with director Kirsty Bell winning Best Director. The film also premiered at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, where it received an enthusiastic response. “It was an important moment for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to present ‘Don’t Forget Me.’ Eddie Cochran’s work helped shape the sound and attitude of rock and roll, and his influence continues to be felt across music today,” said Greg Harris, President and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Created with the blessing of the Cochran family estate, which provided access to never-before-seen archival material, and with support from Universal Music Enterprises, the documentary captures the enduring impact of Cochran’s music. Director Kirsty Bell said:
“It has been the deepest honour to be entrusted by Eddie Cochran’s family to tell his story. His life burned fast and bright, but the ripples of his sound reached across oceans and decades, shaping the very language of rock and roll. ‘Don’t Forget Me’ is not just the title of this film. It is Eddie’s own plea, echoed in autograph books and in the lives he touched. My hope is to bring him vividly back into the world’s consciousness, to remind us not only of what we lost, but of the brilliance he gave.”
