… with hundreds more photos to go through from yesterday, I came across these two shots this evening and they serve to remind me how much I love spending time on the lake and observing life play out in this little part of the world … a wide range of species call this place home and together they live out their mission and purpose in life.

The photo above is of a Great Blue Heron standing in the water on a small point jutting out into the lake and rustling his feathers a bit. The water was quiet and he was intent on getting a snack for lunch.

Below is a photo of a Snowy Egret leaving his perch while a Great Egret looks on … we were only about fifteen feet from them when the Snowy took off. All three birds in the photos are great fishers and somewhere in the shots yesterday are photos of them picking up their groceries for immediate consumption.

I will be doing a presentation at the Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival on Saturday April 23rd and looking forward to seeing you there. You can sign up for the event on the website. The festival begins Thursday … sign up and attend as many of the events as you can.

The featured bird this year is the Vulture … in the world of raptors vultures take top honors as they are the most intelligent among them with eagles and hawks coming in behind them … natures waste management system.

Have a beautiful day … enjoy what comes your way today and really important, keep breathing … it makes the day so much better … and smile, you are here!

    Cheers,

    War
    War
    By Tommy Acosta
War…What is it good for? Obviously, it is good for those who profit from destruction and the taking of human life. And what is the common denominator, the impetus for war throughout the centuries? It’s about the acquisition of land, by force, deceit or any other means possible. During the holidays I went to a party where this retired couple were recounting a land dispute they were having with their neighbor. It seems their neighbor was claiming an extra six feet on their property line and the animosity had grown so strong that they were now in court trying to settle whose six feet of land it was. Prior to the dispute they had been friendly but now they had become arch enemies, all for a tiny piece of land. Read more→
