Sedona News – The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to partner with award-winning surround sound composer and producer Koz Mraz for Dark Side of the Room, featuring Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here” on Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 7 and 8 at 7 p.m. at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre.
Everyone has experienced 5.1 surround in movie theaters, but hearing Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” and “Wish You Were Here” mixed specifically for six speakers, and played in their entirety is simply astounding. Listeners are immersed in lavish, ever-evolving sonic landscapes that only Pink Floyd commands.
Syd Barrett named the group, wrote the first two hit songs and was the lead vocalist and guitarist. Ultimately, Barrett’s psychotic behavior exiled him. The songs “Shine On, You Crazy Diamond” and “Wish You Were Here” are the band’s tribute to their founder.
Experience this in Sedona’s best sound system at the Mary D. Fisher Theater. This is a no-visuals, sonic experience, reminiscent of lost art of listening to music in the dark.
So that everyone has a chance to appreciate and enjoy the 5.1 Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett experience, the same music experience will be available for two consecutive nights.
Presented by Multi-Award-Winning Surround Sound composer/producer Koz Mraz (The Discus Award, Surround Category 2001, Communicator Surround Award 2002, Aurora Surround Award Surround & Grammy nominee 2005).
Limited to a maximum seating of 40 for each night.
This special event is on Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 7 and 8 at 7 p.m. at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre. Tickets are $20. For tickets and more information, please call 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A, in West Sedona. For more information, visit: www.SedonaFilmFestival.org.

Please consider changing the word “psychotic” in reference to Syd Barrett. Very minimal fact-checking will show that this is both inaccurate and unkind, not to mention disrespectful, and only perpetuates myths and urban legends that have persisted about him for over half a centurx, even nearly two decades after he left us. The causes of his decline and withdrawal wese many and complicated, and one would hope this would be easier to see in today’s world, where we understand so much more about mental heakth, addiction, and the effects of social pressure, trauma and stress. One would hope that if these tools of today’s world had been available then, his story, and life, might have taken a different, perhaps more positive, course. None of which was or is your responsibilitx; but you can acknowledge it, in some small way, by changing a few words on your event page. His work, memory and legacy deserve bettes. Thank you.
