Sedona AZ (July 22, 2015) – The National Theatre of London continues its season with “Everyman” — starring Oscar-nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor — showing in Sedona on Sunday, Aug. 2 at 4 p.m. The Sedona International Film Festival hosts the big screen premiere at its Mary D. Fisher Theatre.

BAFTA winner and Academy Award® nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) takes the title role in this dynamic new production of one of English drama’s oldest plays — “Everyman” — directed by the National Theatre’s new Director Rufus Norris (Broken, London Road).

Everyman is successful, popular and riding high when Death comes calling. He is forced to abandon the life he has built and embark on a last, frantic search to recruit a friend, anyone, to speak in his defence. But Death is close behind, and time is running out.

One of the great primal, spiritual myths, “Everyman” asks whether it is only in death that we can understand our lives. A cornerstone of English drama since the 15th century, it now explodes onto the stage in a startling production with words by Carol Ann Duffy, Poet Laureate, and movement by Javier De Frutos.

Critics are raving about “Everyman”, and it is garnering 4- and 5-star reviews from every major publication in London:

‘Powerful. Deeply moving. Chiwetel Ejiofor is excellent.’ — The Times

‘Brilliant. An ‘Everyman’ for today. Chiwetel Ejiofor is remarkable.’ — Guardian

‘Spectacular. Thought-provoking. Full of Carol Ann Duffy’s brilliant sly rhymes.’ — Time Out

‘Bold. Attention grabbing. A startling contemporary version by Carol Ann Duffy.’ — Evening Standard

“Everyman” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre on Sunday, Aug. 2 at 4:00 p.m. Tickets are $15, or $12.50 for Film Festival members. Tickets are available in advance at the Sedona International Film Festival office or by calling 928-282-1177 or online at www.SedonaFilmFestival.org. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A, in West Sedona.

    The Symbolism of Jan. 6

    By Tommy Acosta
Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
