logo_lettereditorFDR was, of course, a consummate political leader. In one situation, a group came to him urging specific actions in support of a cause in which they deeply believed. He replied: “I agree with you, I want to do it, now make me do it.”

It Takes Two Types to Make Political Change

Democracy is not a vicarious experience. If you look at any major movement in American history – abolition, the end of slavery, if you look at the suffragettes, if you look at the civil rights workers, if you look at the environmentalists – these were all movements that were started by citizens . . .. We always focus on the elected officials. No elected official actually took the lead in these issues. These were citizens who took the lead, who forced elected officials to do things. You need to combine the effects of passion with the ability to get things done.
    — Bill Bradley, Former U.S. Senator

I have spent the last two months researching Cell Tower placement. During that process, I came across the issue of smart meters (those new unproven meters “deploying” from the electric companies). Radio frequency here, radio frequency there. Same concerns. Two different dances.

Why would anyone want to spend over a year researching smart meters? I know a couple of people who have. They are writing articles, calling authorities and showing up at meetings. Why? Love for their neighbor? Love of self? Freedom of choice? Right to privacy? Right to health?

When I was a young girl, I did not dream that one day I would spend countless hours trying to find a way to live in a safe environment. I never thought, I couldn’t wait to learn about exposure limits to man made radio frequencies. As a grown woman, I never thought I would be thinking of ways to protect baby’s brains so they could grow up normal. Now I do. I am taking action.

“I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.”
    — Mother Teresa

It’s very simple. Take action from the heart. Love conquers all.

Learn details about what works and does not work. Write an email, send it. Use the phone, use face book and engage your neighbors. Learn the dance and take the lead. Send an email to ucreatechanges@yahoo.com if you would like to share information or be informed about smart meter or cell tower placement in Sedona and all surrounding areas in Yavapai County. Please state the area where you reside.

    What Would I Change?
    By Amaya Gayle Gregory

What would I change if I could? You and I both know I can’t, but it’s a fun exercise anyway. I would have been less of a know-it-all on my spiritual journey. It seems to be a side-effect of the path. Spiritual folks develop an all-knowing buffer to protect against their inevitable surrender to the unknown, but understanding that now didn’t make it gentler on me or those I loved, let alone those that I deemed not capable of getting it 😉 Yeah … I’d have dropped the spiritual snob act. I’d have recognized that spiritual radicals are only different on the outside from radical right Christians, and that the surface doesn’t really matter as much as I thought. We are all doing our couldn’t be otherwise things, playing our perfect roles. I’d have learned to bow down humbly before my fellow man, regardless of whether I agreed with him or not. We’re all in this together and not one of us will get out alive. Read more→
