    Geno Garcia Promoted to Full Time VVFD Firefighter

    Cottonwood AZ (March 17, 2016) – Verde Valley Fire District is proud to announce Geno Garcia was recently promoted to a fulltime firefighter from a Reserve Firefighters position.  Garcia will be sworn in and receive his badge on March 22, fire station 31 at 10:00 during our Fire Board Meeting.

    Garcia started in the Town of Buckeye for one year as a Reserve Firefighter, and then went to Goodyear Fire Department for two years as a Volunteer Fire Cadet and then two years with us as a reserve.  Throughout these positions Gene was able exercise his accumulated skills and acquired knowledge of a Firefighterr 1 and 2, Emergency Medical Technician, Hazmat First responder, Swift water rescue.  Gene also volunteers for the Mustangs Youth Football Organization and Coaches Goodyear Little League Baseball.  Gene is an Arizona native.  He has been married for 15 years and has 5 kids Gene, Gavin, Garren, Giovanni, and Gisele and his wife Dina.

    Gene lives his life under three guidelines of Integrity, Loyal, and Dedicated.  We are fortunate to have Gene as part of our team and able to offer him a fulltime position.  We wish him a safe and healthy career.

    The Sad Lesson of Tyre Nichols

    Having grown up in the mean streets of the Bronx there is one lesson we learn early on, and that’s don’t mess with the cops when they got you down, and outnumbered. The beating of Tyre Nichols at the hands of the police preceding his death at the hospital could have been avoided if only he had the sense to not resist them. People fail to understand that on the streets, cops are basically “God.” You can’t fight them. If it takes one, two, five, ten or twenty officers they will eventually put you down and hurt you if they have to in the process of detaining or arresting you. In the Bronx we would fight amongst ourselves but when the cops came it was “Yes, officer. No, officer,” and do our best to look as innocent as possible. People need to understand that cops on the street represent the full power of the state and government. Read more→
