SEDONA Ariz. – At about 7 p.m. on Nov. 1, 2026, a sewer spill entered Oak Creek near 135 Bear Wallow Lane. It is undetermined how much sewage entered the creek.
The spill happened at the Bear Wallow Pump Station; the pump station was completely submerged with flood waters from Oak Creek, which overwhelmed the pump station with incoming flow and the pumps could not keep up with the flow rate.
Pumper trucks were immediately dispatched to assist, and crews were able to safely access the site at 9 p.m. The pump station returned to normal operating conditions by 10 p.m. Untreated sewage (liquid only) entered Oak Creek during the flood event.
Due to active evacuations and extreme flooding, notifications were not made to residents or posted at trailheads. Water quality sampling has not occurred for safety reasons.
Disinfection of the land surface is underway, and subsequent soil sampling will be done.
The city will keep the community informed as new information becomes available. For up-to-date information on sewer spills, please visit https://www.sedonaaz.gov/your- government/departments/ wastewater/sewer-spill- information.
