SEDONA, Ariz. – The city of Sedona and its contractor Banicki Construction are set to begin Forest Road utility and roadway improvements this week. The project includes:
    • A new upsized water main along Forest Road, from the new Uptown Parking Garage to a connection at Van Deren Road
    • New sidewalk on both sides of Forest Road, from the Uptown Parking Garage to the existing sidewalk at the intersection of SR 89A
    • New concrete curb, gutter and driveway entrances
    • New asphalt pavement
Work may occur Monday through Thursday, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with occasional work on Fridays. During construction there will be one lane of traffic open in each direction, with temporary lane and driveway restrictions, reduced speeds, rough road conditions, loud noise, and flagging operations.
The new water main will be larger to support water service and fire protection for the new Uptown Parking Garage, while also increasing the capacity and reliability for the Uptown area. Future water infrastructure projects will be completed along Van Deren Road and Schnebly Road at a later time.
To improve pedestrian access and safety, sidewalk will be installed where it does not currently exist along Forest Road, creating a finished sidewalk connection from Uptown to the new parking garage. Finally, new asphalt pavement will mean that the entirety of Forest Road has new asphalt and striping..
The city continues working toward opening the newly constructed Uptown Parking Garage. Remaining items related to the opening include completing the necessary water infrastructure and fire protection improvements, along with final inspections and approvals. While the Forest Road roadway and pedestrian improvements do not need to be completed before the garage opens, safe pedestrian and vehicle access will be complete by the opening date.
The city is dedicated to keeping businesses, residents, and visitors informed of potential construction impacts throughout the project. For questions and additional project information call the Project Hotline at (928) 852-4164. To sign-up for email project updates, email a request to info@forestroadimprovements.com.
