Cottonwood AZ (June 2, 2020) – On May 30, 2020, around 10:30 AM., deputies were dispatched to the 3900 block of E Meadow Lane in Cottonwood regarding a threat involving 54-year-old James Kineman claiming he was going to shoot people including himself. The threat was made during a phone call to a crisis center. A quick response team consisting of YCSO SWAT members was activated and deployed around the home. James’ roommate eventually came out of the house and indicated there were firearms in the home along with the possibility a female roommate was still inside.
SWAT personnel maintained a perimeter around the home for several hours to protect the neighborhood while negotiating with James. During this time, James would briefly exit at the back of the home and refuse to cooperate with commands. Eventually, when James came outside to retrieve a pack of cigarettes, SWAT personnel used a less lethal round to subdue him and he was arrested otherwise without incident at 1:30 PM.
During a search of the home, 2 BB guns were found in the living room along with empty containers of whiskey and beer. No one else was in the home. James was booked on charges including Disorderly Conduct, Threatening and Intimidating involving law enforcement and the roommate along with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He has since been released on a promise to appear.
