Yavapai County Sheriff's OfficeCottonwood AZ (June 2, 2020) – On May 30, 2020, around 10:30 AM., deputies were dispatched to the 3900 block of E Meadow Lane in Cottonwood regarding a threat involving 54-year-old James Kineman claiming he was going to shoot people including himself. The threat was made during a phone call to a crisis center. A quick response team consisting of YCSO SWAT members was activated and deployed around the home. James’ roommate eventually came out of the house and indicated there were firearms in the home along with the possibility a female roommate was still inside.

SWAT personnel maintained a perimeter around the home for several hours to protect the neighborhood while negotiating with James. During this time, James would briefly exit at the back of the home and refuse to cooperate with commands. Eventually, when James came outside to retrieve a pack of cigarettes, SWAT personnel used a less lethal round to subdue him and he was arrested otherwise without incident at 1:30 PM.

Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
