logo_MATForceVerde Valley AZ (April 27, 2015) – A “Dump the Drugs” event will be held on Saturday, May 9th, in Lake Montezuma at the Beaver Creek Adult Center.  MATFORCE, the Beaver Creek Community Action Team and Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office are helping sponsor this event.

The Beaver Creek Dump the Drugs event gives local community members a chance to safely dispose of unwanted prescription or over-the-counter medication.    Thirty percent of youth report they get pills to abuse right out of the family medicine cabinet.  Proper disposal of unwanted medication will help keep potentially dangerous drugs out of the wrong hands and from getting into our water systems.

Merilee Fowler, MATFORCE Executive Director, said, “Prescription drug abuse is a national epidemic.  But locally we are making progress.  Prescription drug abuse among youth is down by 36.8% since 2012, according to the most recent Arizona Youth Survey.  Thank you to all who take the time to safely dispose of unwanted medications.”

Prescription and over-the-counter medications can be dropped off between 10:00 AM and noon at Beaver Creek Adult Center, 4250 E. Zuni Way in Lake Montezuma.
