The Verde Valley Fire District is concerned with a potential increase of rising waters in Oak Creek and the Verde River do to the recent Slide Fire in Oak Creek Canyon. The Slide Fire recently burned more than 21,000 acres north of Sedona, AZ, primarily within the Oak Creek watershed. The post-fire watershed will most likely result in increased runoff from the affected areas during future rain storms. This has the potential to be most pronounced during the upcoming summer monsoon season during high-intensity rainfall events. Even though it is difficult to determine how this may impact the Verde Valley area we find it necessary to make you aware of the flooding potential so that you can be prepared.
