Verde Valley News – Yavapai College is proud to announce a significant milestone in its ongoing commitment to making higher education accessible and affordable for all. The Yavapai College Promise Program has provided over $1 million in tuition reimbursements to students since its inception in 2019, helping more than 600 students graduate debt-free and enter the workforce or pursue further education.

The Promise Program, inspired by the Tennessee Promise model, offers tuition reimbursement to eligible high school graduates and adult learners in Yavapai County. Students who complete their associate degrees within two years receive full reimbursement for tuition costs, enabling them to achieve their educational goals without the burden of debt.

“This milestone represents more than just a number—it symbolizes the dreams and achievements of hundreds of students in our community,” said Meghan Paquette, Director of Early College and Promise Programs. “We are proud to support their journeys and are committed to empowering even more students by providing a pathway to affordable, quality education.”

The program initially launched in 2019 for high school graduates and expanded in 2022 to include the Workforce Promise. This addition allows adult students pursuing one of 16 workforce-focused degrees to qualify for tuition reimbursement as they prepare for high-demand, living-wage careers in fields such as nursing, radiology, and elementary education.

Key Accomplishments of the Promise Program:

    • $1 Million Reimbursed: Over $1 million in tuition reimbursements has been issued, directly benefiting students and their families.
    • 600 Graduates: More than 600 students have completed their associate degrees debt-free, many of whom are now contributing to the local workforce or continuing their education.
    • Increased Accessibility: The program supports students from diverse backgrounds, including first-generation college students, by removing financial barriers and offering guidance through academic advising and support services.

Yavapai College funds the Promise Program internally, ensuring its sustainability and independence from external grants. “This program is a promise we’ve made to our students and community,” said Paquette. “It’s a priority because it transforms lives and strengthens our local economy.”

The impact of the program extends beyond individual students. By addressing workforce needs and partnering with local industries, the Promise Program fosters a stronger, more vibrant community.
