Verde Valley News – MATFORCE, a primary prevention organization focused on stopping youth drug use before it starts, has partnered with several community partners to bring a wide range of classes to support parents and caregivers, and expand their tools to strengthen family relationships.

Grow Your Parenting Skills with Beth Dunn, MS, LPC
Partnering with Humboldt Unified School District (HUSD) and Beth Dunn, MS, LPC, MATFORCE is offering 3 classes designed to support parents, caregivers, and anyone that works with children.

The first class in the series, “Building Resilience Through Regulation and Relationship,” uses the framework from Dr. Bruce Perry’s Neurosequential Model of Development©. Participants will explore how the human brain develops, the importance of the early years of development, and its connection to potential lifelong regulation capacity. This first class will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

The second class in the series, “The ‘ABC’s’ of Feelings,” provides parents and caregivers with the ‘4+1’ framework: the four basic feelings, their connection to anger, what feelings are for, and how to manage them. Participants will explore the role healthy feelings management plays in preventing substance abuse, social media toxicity, depression, anxiety, and tardiness and school absenteeism. This class will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

The last class in the series, “Working with Depression and Anxiety in Kids,” will explore the sources of these conditions and provide strategies for parents and caregivers to share and practice with their children to manage depression and anxiety. This class will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

All classes will be held at the HUSD office, located at 6411 N. Robert Road, in the Vista Room, Building Room 457, Prescott Valley. Contact Lisa to register for free at (928) 759-5104 or lisa.krietenstein@humboldtunified.com.

Parenting the Love and Logic Way®
Partnering with Lincoln Elementary School, MATFORCE is offering a Parenting the Love and Logic Way® class starting Thursday, April 11, 2024, and continuing April 18, 25, May 2, 9, and 16, 2024 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Each of the 6 sessions will be held at Lincoln Elementary School located at 201 Park Avenue, in Prescott.

The Love and Logic approach to parenting is built on the idea that an authentic, loving connection between parents and their children forms the foundation of good behavior and healthy decision-making.

Over the course of the class, facilitators will discuss the challenges parents and caregivers face with their children on a daily basis. They will teach strategies on how to discipline kids without losing their love and respect, help children develop personal responsibility and good decision-making skills, nurture long-term relationships and reinforce good behavior.

To register for this free class, contact MATFORCE at (928) 708-0100 or info@matforceaz.org.

    Neurosequential Model in Caregiving©
MATFORCE is also offering the Neurosequential Model in Caregiving©, a six-week training that will include an introduction to the brain, attachment, state-dependent functioning, self-regulation, rethinking discipline, and self-care. This class is based on Dr. Bruce Perry’s Neurosequential Modeling of Therapeutics© and is designed to support parents, caregivers, and anyone who works with children that have experienced adversity.

This six-week class is on Tuesdays, April 9, 16, 23, 30, May 7, and 14, 2024, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Classes are virtual only and will not be recorded. Registration is free but is required to attend.

To register for this free class, contact MATFORCE at (928) 708-0100 or info@matforceaz.org.
